Use the official electronic border portal and recheck its live instructions rather than relying on an old blog’s application window or fee. Keep reservation details accessible in transit. An authorisation is not a promise to enter regardless of circumstances, and the administrative step belongs in the same checklist as your flights. Families should check each traveller’s document details individually before submitting, especially when a name differs between tickets and passports.
Mahé is more than an airport island to escape. It holds the capital, different coastal aspects and a road network that can turn a single base into several distinct days. Victoria gives markets and urban life; Beau Vallon gives a fuller beach-service setting; Anse Royale can anchor a more village-oriented south-east stay. The names describe different choices, not interchangeable pins on a small map. Choose by the activity you expect to repeat most often, then calculate transfers to the ferry quay and airport separately. If an early international departure is fixed, the convenience of a Mahé final night can outweigh the appeal of one extra remote beach sunset.
Praslin deserves a stay for a reason besides a famous photograph. Vallée de Mai is a protected forest managed by Seychelles Islands Foundation, with visitor information that distinguishes accessible facilities from more demanding paths. Give the visit time for orientation and a comfortable walking pace; do not attach it to a rushed ferry changeover. Baie Sainte Anne suits an arrival-side plan, while Grand Anse offers a different west-coast base. The best room is the one whose transport and beach conditions fit your actual week. Asking a host where to swim in current wind is more useful than assuming an entire island shares one calm sea.
La Digue asks a useful question of a short itinerary: do you want to visit the image or live with the island for a while? Its ferry arrival at La Passe is only the beginning of the day. Reaching another beach, finding a meal and returning on a fixed boat all take time. An overnight stay changes the pace and makes weather flexibility possible. It also adds another check-in, more luggage handling and another leg before the flight home. If you have ten days, the trade may be rewarding; if you have six, Mahé and Praslin may feel more complete. Let the available full days, not an island count, decide.
Treat island crossings as separate commitments. Air Seychelles offers Mahé–Praslin bookings, and the ports authority describes the domestic inter-island jetty network. Neither source justifies an evergreen promise about the exact departure, fare, luggage allowance or sea state on your dates. Compare the live operator choices, note whether a ferry can be uncomfortable in swell, and leave room for road travel between Mahé’s quay and airport. A same-day boat-to-international-flight connection might work on paper and still be a poor holiday ending if it has no recoverable buffer. Book the last island leg only after you understand the airline’s check-in deadline.
Curieuse makes sense as a considered day from Praslin, not as a secret overnight base. Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority describes it as a protected marine park and states that tourist overnight accommodation is unavailable. Check the current access and fee rules, sea conditions and the operator’s return plan before paying. Visitors should follow conservation guidance and avoid treating wildlife as a guaranteed prop. An excursion may be cancelled for conditions; have a useful Praslin day that can take its place. This is also why a multi-night Praslin base can work better than trying to cross from Mahé, visit the park and return in one exhausting sequence.
The beach decision is more precise than a country-wide weather chart. The Meteorological Authority distinguishes seasonal wind phases, but granite headlands, reef, tide and local exposure can change one cove from its neighbour. Do not equate clear water with safe water or a sheltered photograph with a safe entry today. Ask the accommodation about the nearest usable beach in the expected wind, listen to on-site advice and respect closures. If swimming is central to the holiday, choose accommodation with access to a second shore or a worthwhile non-beach day. That flexibility matters more than collecting a list of beaches from an undated ranking.
Budget the connections, not only the nightly room rate. On a three-island route, road transfers, ferry or flight tickets, luggage arrangements, park entries, meals and cancellation conditions can change the total. A central apartment may save transport time and still require self-catering supplies; a remote resort may make every dinner a property decision. Compare dates and providers directly because rates change. Decide which extra island earns the cost of its travel day. If the result is a two-island stay with one protected-forest visit and several flexible beach days, it can deliver more usable holiday than a cheaper-looking three-island plan with constant moving.
