Three islands, four distinct hotel bases

The first Mahé stay is at Beau Vallon because an international arrival already consumes attention. Two nights allow a quiet arrival and one uncommitted beach or Victoria day before the first crossing. Praslin earns three nights for a genuine forest day at Vallée de Mai, a separate coast choice and, if sea conditions and budget permit, a managed Curieuse excursion. The southeast-side Baie Sainte Anne base is practical for the pier, although a room advertised in a different Praslin bay must be judged by its real access, not the island name alone. La Passe then gives two nights for L’Union Estate and a second day to explore La Digue at a humane pace. Return to southern Mahé for two nights at Anse Royale. That move costs time, but it keeps the final international departure on the same island as the airport and gives the south coast its own chapter.

There are nine paid hotel nights, not ten. Day ten is departure. Every inter-island move uses a transfer block rather than a nominal crossing duration: hotel checkout, road access to the quay, check-in, sea state, arrival and another local ride are real parts of the journey. The Cat Cocos operator and a September 2026 timetable analysis disagree on the Mahé–Praslin journey duration, and exact departures can change. Buy the service for your date, inspect baggage rules and ask how a missed or cancelled connection is handled. On the La Digue–Mahé return, confirm whether a through service or Praslin connection actually exists that day. Avoid an unprotected same-day link to the international flight. The Meteorological Authority explains shifting wind regimes, so a photogenic bay is never a promise of calm water.

Beau Vallon as an arrival cushion

Keep the first afternoon free for travel fatigue, then use a full day for the coast or a separate Victoria visit. A beach front address changes walking convenience; confirm where the room actually lies.

Vallée de Mai without a squeeze

The SIF visitor centre and first forest section support a more accessible introduction than an unsupported claim that every forest path is wheelchair friendly. Leave enough time to choose a trail length after arrival.

Curieuse is a day excursion

SPGA manages Curieuse as a marine national park and states there is no tourist overnight accommodation. Price a legal boat trip, park admission and conditions separately from the Praslin room.

La Digue’s estate and reserve

L’Union Estate is the managed route to Anse Source d’Argent; the Veuve Reserve protects habitat elsewhere on La Digue. Neither attraction guarantees a safe swim or a wildlife sighting.

A real final island buffer

Returning to Mahé for two nights lets the international day start on the departure island. Anse Royale is a different southern base, so account for the road journey from the quay.

A ticket, not a copied timetable

Cat Cocos serves the three islands, but a dated route overview is not a booking. Check the operator’s live service, terminal, baggage and sea policy before fixing non-refundable accommodation.

Best for

  • Travellers who want one meaningful nature or heritage day on each island
  • Visitors comfortable planning three ferry moves and retaining a flight buffer

StartBooker answer

How should I split ten days among Mahé, Praslin and La Digue without rushing the flight home?

Use nine hotel nights: two in Beau Vallon on Mahé, three around Baie Sainte Anne on Praslin, two in La Passe on La Digue and two in Anse Royale back on Mahé. Travel between islands on separate, lightly planned days and check each ferry ticket with its operator. The La Digue return may connect through Praslin; do not rely on a daily direct boat. Vallée de Mai and L’Union Estate deserve their own unhurried visits. The final Mahé stay protects the international departure from a same-day sea disruption.

Night arithmetic
2 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 9 hotel nights across four bases
Praslin forest
Vallée de Mai is on Praslin and the first forest section is wheelchair accessible
La Digue access
Anse Source d’Argent is reached through L’Union Estate
Return route
La Digue–Mahé may require a Praslin connection on the chosen date

Four bases and nine nights

The two Mahé stays serve different jobs: northern arrival time and a southern departure buffer. Praslin and La Digue each receive full days outside the ferry moves.

  1. Pale sand and shallow turquoise water below green hills at Beau Vallon, Mahé 1

    Beau Vallon

    2 nights

Arrival recovery and a flexible northern-coast day

Start on the northern Mahé coast with two nights. The first is for arrival; the second protects a complete local day rather than sending tired travellers directly to a boat. Choose an address that makes the beach and food you want easy to reach, and price the airport transfer explicitly. A Victoria outing is optional; it should not be squeezed between airport formalities and ferry check-in.

  2. Sunny sand, palms and clear water at Anse Volbert in Baie Sainte Anne district, Praslin 2

    Baie Sainte Anne

    3 nights

Praslin ferry access, palm forest and optional marine park

Use the populated settlement near Praslin’s east-side ferry arrival as the three-night base. Day one is the crossing and orientation, day two belongs to Vallée de Mai, and day three can be a chosen beach or a weather-cleared Curieuse trip. Check the room’s exact bay and road access: the ferry pier, a forest entrance and a north-coast sand outing are separate destinations, even though online listings can flatten them into “Praslin.”

  3. Sunlit granite coast near the ferry harbour at La Passe on La Digue 3

    La Passe

    2 nights

La Digue jetty, estate heritage and bicycle-scale exploration

La Passe is the jetty-side La Digue base. Two nights make arrival and departure possible without treating the island as a rushed photo stop. Use a complete day for L’Union Estate, its heritage landscape and Anse Source d’Argent, then choose a separate reserve or shoreline walk based on heat and conditions. Confirm whether the property lends bicycles, offers safe storage and can help with luggage from the quay.

  4. Granite rocks, pale sand and turquoise water at Fairyland Beach, Anse Royale 4

    Anse Royale

    2 nights

Southern Mahé coast and protected flight departure

Finish in the south of Mahé rather than booking an international flight directly after a La Digue boat. Two nights allow the return crossing, a south-coast day and an airport approach with margin. Anse Royale is not the airport neighbourhood, so confirm the actual car ride and flight check-in time. Let the beach choice respond to local conditions; the final stay should feel relaxed while still doing the practical work of keeping departure on Mahé.

Ten days with three visible transfer days

The sequence spends days three, six and eight mainly on moves. Attractions sit on full local days; day ten is airport departure.

1 Day 1 Land on Mahé and settle by the north coast

Complete entry formalities, collect bags and travel from the airport to the chosen Beau Vallon address. Seychelles requires a Travel Authorisation process and a visitor permit subject to immigration conditions; check the current requirements before departure rather than leaving paperwork until the flight. A late landing is a reason to eat and sleep, not to chase sunset or a ferry. Ask the property exactly how to reach it from the road and whether an arrival meal is available. If the room sits uphill, a “Beau Vallon” listing may still demand a vehicle for the beach. Note the next day’s wind and sea forecast, then protect the first night as rest.

  • Confirm actual room access
  • Keep arrival evening unscheduled

Overnight: Beau Vallon

2 Day 2 Give Beau Vallon one complete day

Use the first full day to choose between time on the northern beach and a separate outing into Victoria. The beach is a place to look at the water before entering it: wind direction, shore break and any local warning matter more than a seasonal slogan. If a city visit appeals, do it as a deliberate trip, with enough time to return before dusk and without depending on a bus whose current timetable you have not checked. SPTC explains visitor transport options, but a route and boarding point should still be verified for the actual day. This is also the sensible moment to confirm tomorrow’s ferry terminal, luggage limit and transfer from the hotel.

  • Choose coast or capital rather than both at speed
  • Confirm tomorrow’s jetty plan

Overnight: Beau Vallon

3 Day 3 Cross to Praslin and orient at Baie Sainte Anne

Travel to the Inter-Island Quay in Victoria with time for the ferry operator’s check-in and identification rules. The ticket, rather than an old timetable image, decides the sailing. Cat Cocos links Mahé and Praslin, but published journey descriptions vary; add a road leg at each end, baggage handling and a possible weather delay to the day. On Praslin, the ferry lands at Baie Sainte Anne. Find the actual guesthouse before promising an afternoon excursion: the settlement, the quay and other island beaches are not interchangeable pin locations. Buy food for the next morning if needed, then make this a low-commitment evening.

  • Check the dated sailing and baggage terms
  • Find the exact Praslin address

Overnight: Baie Sainte Anne

4 Day 4 Spend a full morning among coco de mer palms

Go to Vallée de Mai after checking the SIF opening and current admission. The protected forest is more than a short photographic backdrop: choose a trail according to heat, mobility and how much natural history your group wants to read. SIF says the visitor centre and first part of the forest are wheelchair accessible, which is useful but does not certify the longer uneven routes. A visitor leaflet and several route lengths help visitors decide on site. Keep wildlife expectations modest; the black parrot is a protected wild bird, not a timed performance. Back at the accommodation, decide whether tomorrow is better used for a beach or a marine-park outing once the forecast becomes clearer.

  • Choose a forest loop that suits the group
  • Keep wildlife sightings optional

Overnight: Baie Sainte Anne

5 Day 5 Choose a Praslin coast day or Curieuse

This is the Praslin flexibility day. A calm, suitable forecast and a responsible licensed local operator may make Curieuse appealing: SPGA describes its mangroves, tortoises and marked paths, and the boat trip carries its own fare and park entry. Check what an excursion includes, whether a ranger or guide is involved, and how the operator handles poor seas. Curieuse has no tourist overnight rooms, so return to the Praslin base. If the conditions or cost do not work, choose a land-based Praslin beach or village outing and ask locally where swimming is sensible. It is still a complete day, not a failed substitute for a promised island checklist.

  • Decide with the day’s sea conditions
  • Separate boat, park and meal costs

Overnight: Baie Sainte Anne

6 Day 6 Take the short island crossing to La Passe

Check out and reach the Baie Sainte Anne pier for a booked Praslin–La Digue service. Cat Cocos serves the network; Cat Rose adds crossings according to the current schedule, so compare the ticket available on your exact date. La Passe is the arrival village by the jetty, but some rooms advertised as “La Digue” lie farther away. Confirm luggage collection and the transfer before promising a bicycle ride with heavy bags. Once settled, explore the waterfront and ask the property about bicycle condition, locks and safe night storage. Save the estate admission for a full day rather than racing its closing time after an uncertain boat.

  • Use a date-checked crossing
  • Arrange luggage from the La Passe jetty

Overnight: La Passe

7 Day 7 Follow La Digue’s estate history to the beach

Give L’Union Estate an unrushed visit. The operator describes plantation structures, coconut processing, vanilla cultivation and access onward to Anse Source d’Argent. Pay the current estate admission through the managed entry and keep the receipt if re-entry terms matter. Cycling is common, but walk where crowds, surface or heat make riding unwise. The granite beach deserves time to observe tides and water conditions before choosing whether to enter; the famous photograph alone does not make every pool safe. If energy remains, ask the Veuve Reserve about its current guided or unguided admission and visit for habitat understanding, not a guaranteed rare-bird sighting. Return before cycling in poor light.

  • Learn the estate before reaching the sand
  • Treat wildlife as a possibility, not a booking

Overnight: La Passe

8 Day 8 Return to Mahé and settle on the south coast

This is a travel day even if the visible sea crossing looks short on a map. A La Digue–Mahé ticket may travel through Praslin or rely on separate connections; confirm the sequence, baggage handling and minimum connection with the operator. Leave room for sea changes rather than building a paid tour into the same afternoon. Once at the Mahé quay, take a road transfer to Anse Royale and verify that the booked accommodation is really in the southern area you intended. The advantage of returning now is resilience: a disrupted crossing does not automatically become a missed international flight. Have a quiet dinner and keep the following day local.

  • Verify through ticket or connection
  • Protect the international departure with Mahé nights

Overnight: Anse Royale

9 Day 9 Make the south coast a real final day

Use the free day to enjoy Anse Royale at a pace that suits the weather. A sheltered-looking shore can still have current, coral or an unsuitable entry point, so follow local advice and the actual forecast. If the group wants a different activity, choose a short local visit with a clear return time rather than crossing the island for one more photograph. Confirm tomorrow’s driver or bus plan, the airport check-in time and any entry or departure documents needed for the next country. Repack wet beach items separately and keep medicines and essential papers in hand luggage. This is a satisfying finish precisely because no inter-island ticket must be caught tonight.

  • Choose water activity by actual conditions
  • Check the airport transfer before bed

Overnight: Anse Royale

10 Day 10 Depart from Mahé with a real road margin

Leave Anse Royale at a time based on the airline’s check-in guidance and the property’s actual distance from Seychelles International Airport. The guide counts nine nights: the final day does not add a tenth room. Book a vehicle or confirm a suitable bus only after considering luggage, early hours and the need for a dependable arrival; public transport may be useful during a relaxed day yet a poor fit for an early flight. The itinerary’s final two Mahé nights were the buffer against an island-boat disruption, but they do not remove ordinary airport queues or road uncertainty. Check the latest flight status and take the extra time calmly rather than using the morning for one last distant stop.

  • Travel directly from the final Mahé base
  • Count nine hotel nights, then fly

Overnight: No overnight

Three ferry moves and the final airport road leg

Book each sea service for the actual date. The four hotel bases create three inter-island legs; local rides at the ports are additional.

3 transfers

  1. Beau Vallon Baie Sainte Anne

Ferry Travel time: Use day three for the complete door-to-door move

Travel by road from Beau Vallon to Victoria’s Inter-Island Quay, then by booked Mahé–Praslin ferry and onward from Baie Sainte Anne pier to the exact room. Different sources quote different passage times, so allow a generous transfer block.

  2. Baie Sainte Anne La Passe

Ferry Travel time: Keep day six light after the short crossing

Board at the Praslin pier for La Digue and arrive beside La Passe. Cat Rose and Cat Cocos appear in the 2026 route network; availability is ticket-specific, not guaranteed by this overview.

  3. La Passe Anse Royale

Ferry Travel time: Reserve day eight for boat connection and southbound road travel

Return to Mahé by the service actually sold for your date. A through routing or a Praslin connection may be needed; the road leg from Victoria quay to southern Anse Royale is separate.

Three sea moves The Mahé–Praslin, Praslin–La Digue and La Digue–Mahé legs may use different tickets. Add transport from each quay to the actual property and ask what a cancellation permits.
Tickets, bags and port transfers
Praslin nature SIF admission supports the managed forest. Curieuse adds a boat operator, a park ticket and possibly a meal; avoid assuming one advertised excursion includes everything.
Vallée de Mai and optional Curieuse
La Digue access L’Union Estate has its own entrance rules. A bicycle may be included by the guesthouse or rented separately; inspect it before setting out.
Estate entry and optional bicycle
Mahé final nights Two Anse Royale nights carry a real cost but remove the direct boat-to-international-flight dependency. An early flight may favour an airport-side room instead.
South-coast room plus airport transfer

Booking tips

  • Book the four accommodation blocks as 2 + 3 + 2 + 2 nights before locking the ferry order.
  • Buy date-specific crossings from the operator and retain the booking terms and boarding instructions.
  • Confirm protected-area admission, visitor hours and sea-dependent excursions close to travel.

Practical questions before booking the island loop

Are ten days enough for Mahé, Praslin and La Digue?

Yes if nine nights are distributed deliberately and travel days are treated as travel. This plan uses two Mahé nights at the start, three on Praslin, two on La Digue and two back on Mahé; it does not promise three full sightseeing days on every island.

Is the La Digue-to-Mahé ferry direct every day?

Do not assume so. The current route network includes through and connecting possibilities, but the service for your date decides the practical journey. Check the operator’s booking and allow the entire return day rather than promising a fixed direct boat.

Why stay on Mahé after La Digue?

An international flight is too important to depend on a same-day sea transfer whose time or operation can change. The two final Anse Royale nights put you on the departure island while providing a genuine south-coast day.

Can we stay overnight on Curieuse?

No tourist accommodation is offered there according to SPGA visitor information. Visit from Praslin with a suitable boat operator and park entry, then return to your paid Praslin room.

Is Vallée de Mai fully wheelchair accessible?

SIF says the visitor centre and first section of forest are wheelchair accessible, not every longer route. Contact the site about the specific path, current surface and assistance that your group requires.

When is the sea calm enough to swim?

There is no reliable all-island answer. Seychelles’ seasonal winds alter exposure, and conditions differ by beach and day. Ask locally, read warnings and choose a safer activity when the water looks unsuitable.
