Stay in or just behind the Old Town if nightlife is the point and you can live with late music; ask for a room away from the Mediteranska bar strip. The modern blocks behind the long town beach are Budva's practical middle ground. You walk to the sand in a couple of minutes, reach the Old Town gates along the promenade and are close to supermarkets, bakeries and the bus station for day trips. Rooms a street or two back from the seafront escape the worst of the beach-bar music while keeping everything on foot. Choose the street as carefully as the neighbourhood. A lower floor facing the promenade may hear late bars; a courtyard-facing room one block inland can be quieter without giving up the ability to walk to dinner. If you have a car, ask whether parking is included and where it is: the dense central grid is less forgiving than a map of the wider municipality suggests. The bus station is useful for Kotor, but it is not directly on the sand.

Four places to sleep on the Budva Riviera

One coast road and one seafront promenade tie these areas together. Moving east from the Old Town, they get quieter, more resort-like and slightly cheaper. A sea-facing address can mean a loud promenade; a room two blocks back can still be near the sand. Read the actual map pin and recent guest comments before paying for a beachfront label. Bečići and Rafailovići share one long bay but have different rhythms: resort infrastructure is stronger near Bečići, while the eastern end feels smaller and has fewer shops. Jaz lies west of town and needs a ride, so it is a beach outing rather than a walkable central base.

Budva's areas differ less in scenery than in volume. Start with how you want your evenings to sound. For a beach-first week, consider how often you expect to leave your immediate bay. A family staying in Bečići can use the promenade for an easy Budva evening, while a traveller booking daily excursions may prefer the more central bus-station side of town. Nightlife seekers should distinguish a short walk to bars from sleeping above them. A cheap hillside room can become costly in taxi rides if its route back is steep after dark.

Getting to Budva

Budva is in the middle of the coast, within half an hour of Tivat Airport and with buses to almost everywhere in Montenegro. Tivat Airport is geographically close, but the airport's published driving estimate assumes uncongested roads. Montenegro's coastal roads slow in peak summer, so leave extra time for an outbound flight. Compare the final cost of a transfer with the fare to the bus station and the last local leg to your room. If flying to Podgorica, confirm a current direct connection with the actual operator; the airport's displayed bus timetable was valid only through May 2025.

Arriving

From Tivat Airport

Tivat Airport's road table puts Budva 21 km and an uncongested 27-minute drive away. Allow extra time in summer, then compare a taxi and a prebooked transfer using a current all-in quote for your hotel and luggage.

From Podgorica Airport

The inland road trip is roughly 65 km and can lengthen considerably in summer. Podgorica Airport lists taxi providers but no current Budva tariff; get a complete quote. Its published bus timetable expired on 31 May 2025, so confirm an actual service with the operator before relying on it.

By bus from the coast

Budva's bus station is in Rozino, about 1.6 km from the Old Town gate. Buses from Kotor take about 45 minutes and run from early morning until late evening.

Around the Riviera

On foot

The seafront promenade runs from the Old Town along Slovenska Plaža and through a lit tunnel to Bečići and Rafailovići; allow close to an hour end to end.

Minibus and taxis

Budva’s tourism office lists Mediteran Express services to Jaz, Bečići, Pržno and Sveti Stefan. Confirm the current route and last return locally; for a taxi, agree the fare or meter terms before starting.

By boat

Taxi boats cross to Sveti Nikola from the waterfront in about ten minutes in summer; the first boats go around 09:00.

The seafront promenade from the Old Town to Bečići is flat and paved, while the Old Town has uneven marble and steps, and the path to Mogren is a narrow cliff walkway. A hotel on the Slovenska Plaža or Bečići seafront gives the easiest access to the water.

Budva seasons, costs and mistakes

Budva works best when you pick your month and your street with care. The season changes the value of an address. In July and August, an Old Town room buys immediate access to restaurants but can also buy a late soundtrack; on a cooler shoulder-season weekend, the same position is easier to enjoy. Ask about air conditioning, the room's window orientation and parking rather than judging the stay only by a beach distance. For a paid beach day, check what the current lounger price covers before sitting down.
