Count a seven-day holiday as six nights if you leave on day seven: three in Ubud and three in Sanur is our suggested first-trip split. Arrival and departure already occupy two of those seven days. For ten days, the linked Bali-and-Penida itinerary uses nine nights across Ubud, Penida and Sanur; it returns to mainland Bali before the flight home. Add Yogyakarta or western Flores only when you can give the extra destination several nights. A temple visit, a boat excursion and an airport transfer each need space in the plan; they cannot all be squeezed into the same nominal sightseeing day.
Entry permission and the arrival declaration are separate. Check your passport’s visitor category through Indonesian Immigration, then complete All Indonesia at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id within three days before arrival. It combines immigration, health, customs and quarantine information; prepare passport, flight and first accommodation details and save the QR offline. If extending a visa, leave time near the responsible immigration office: Ngurah Rai requires an in-person photo and interview even when the application starts online. A distant island move just before expiry makes that appointment harder.
For Borobudur’s terraces, select the climbing product, which includes a guide, wristband and the special upanat sandals worn on the structure. The booking page recommends arriving 30–45 minutes before your allocated start. Arrange the road journey from Yogyakarta around that appointment; keep Prambanan for another excursion if you want time at both sites. Grounds and climbing products are distinct. The current page labels its grounds-only option for domestic visitors; international visitors need the applicable booking category rather than assuming the cheapest displayed price applies.
Prambanan’s Ramayana ballet is a separate evening reservation from visiting the temples. For May–October 2026, the detailed calendar lists outdoor Ramayana on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 19:30–21:00; Friday’s indoor Roro Jonggrang is a different story and performance. Choose the dated programme before arranging the return car. Rain before the outdoor show starts moves it indoors; if rain begins after at least 45 minutes, the operator treats the performance as complete without a refund. That makes an outdoor ticket a weather-dependent choice, even during the usually drier months.
At the Kraton, the royal palace in Yogyakarta, buy access for the particular public unit you want to visit; each has its own hours and ticket counter. Dress modestly and follow restrictions around the working court. The palace provides wheelchair routes in some areas, but parts of its historic buildings remain difficult to access, so discuss the intended route before buying tickets if steps are a barrier. On Bali, subak is the community irrigation system behind the rice landscape. An excursion explaining its water temples and farming practices adds context that a photograph of terraces alone cannot provide.
Rinjani restrictions apply to individual routes. The park closed the Torean trekking route from 23 September 2026 until further notice, directing affected ticket holders to reschedule or arrange another authorised entrance and exit. Do not assume that reopening elsewhere makes Torean available. Before choosing a trek, ask the park and organiser about your specific trail, exit and eRinjani reservation; September’s fire notices are not a current availability calendar for every route. A coastal Lombok holiday can include Sasak village visits without depending on a mountain ascent, so keep that mainland programme usable if the trek changes.
