Choose the southern outing around your interests. A morning in Pula followed by Cape Kamenjak suits an independent coastal day. Brijuni is the alternative: book its boat and visitor programme from Fažana, and move the Arena visit to arrival day if time allows or the morning you leave Pula. From Rovinj, choose Poreč’s mosaics or a full day around Golden Cape. Visit Grožnjan on the transfer inland, then keep the following day for Motovun and one nearby outing.

This plan assumes a Croatian car pickup and return. Ask each accommodation for its named car park and the final route to reception, especially in Rovinj and Motovun. An upper-town room puts the lanes and viewpoints close by, with a steep approach to consider. A valley stay may offer easier parking but adds a drive into town. Check whether dinner is available at or near the property. Grožnjan is visited on day five, leaving day six for Motovun itself and one optional outing.

Seven days from Pula to the coast and hills

Day one is arrival and day seven departure. The Brijuni option changes when you visit the Arena; the six overnight stays remain the same.

Check the fuel policy, return location and any restrictions on unpaved roads before leaving the rental desk. After dropping bags, walk towards the Arena, then continue to the Forum and Arch of the Sergii as time allows. If you arrive early and plan Brijuni tomorrow, an Arena visit today may fit within the current opening hours. If tomorrow is your Brijuni day, the Arena can wait until day three; with Kamenjak, visit it tomorrow morning. With a late flight, a meal near the room is enough for the first evening.

2 Day 2 Choose a Brijuni visit or Pula and Kamenjak Car

For Brijuni, drive to Fažana for the booked departure and leave time to park and board. The official guided programme lasts about three and a half hours and includes the return boat, guide, tourist train, Safari Park and listed exhibitions. Allow half a day plus access travel, then have lunch or a harbour walk in Fažana. The alternative begins with Pula Arena and continues to Kamenjak for coastal paths or swimming in suitable conditions. Pedestrians and cyclists enter free; vehicles follow the current fee policy. Check rental permission before taking unpaved access roads. Return to the same Pula room.

3 Day 3 Finish Pula sightseeing and move to Rovinj Car

If Brijuni filled yesterday and you have not entered the Arena, visit it this morning before leaving Pula. Otherwise begin the drive after breakfast, with a short Bale stop if you want a village walk. Do not leave luggage visible in the parked car. Reach Rovinj during the accommodation’s agreed arrival hours, leave the vehicle in its named parking area and take your bags to the room. Walk the harbour, continue through Grisia towards St Euphemia and return by another old-town lane. Stay for dinner beside the water or in the centre rather than adding another drive this evening.

4 Day 4 Visit Poreč or stay around Golden Cape Car

For Poreč, check the Euphrasian complex’s opening day before setting out: the diocese lists Sunday and obligatory church-holiday closures. Walk through the old centre to the basilica complex, allowing time for its mosaics, atrium, baptistery and former bishop’s palace where accessible. UNESCO recognition applies to the episcopal complex, rather than the whole modern town. Have lunch and a waterfront walk before returning to Rovinj. The alternative keeps you local: follow Golden Cape’s shaded paths, choose a suitable swimming spot if conditions allow and return to the old town later. Either option leaves a second evening in Rovinj.

5 Day 5 Visit Grožnjan on the way to Motovun Car

Leave the coast after breakfast and head inland towards Grožnjan. Park outside its small centre and walk through the lanes, stopping at galleries that are open. The town hosts seasonal music and arts activity; check its programme if a performance matters to you. Have lunch before continuing to the Motovun area, rather than trying to visit several other hill towns along the way. At the accommodation, confirm parking, any shuttle or luggage transfer, and dinner arrangements. If there is time and the weather is comfortable, take a first Motovun walk; its walls and longer visit can wait until tomorrow.

6 Day 6 Explore Motovun and choose one inland outing Car

Spend the cooler part of the day walking up to Motovun’s old centre and around its viewpoints. Check access and admission for the walls before entering. The view takes in the Mirna valley, vineyards and forest; the forest is protected, so a casual walk is not permission to forage. After lunch, choose a booked olive-oil or food-producer visit, or a short outing towards Buzet and Hum. Ask the host about opening and travel time before setting off. For a wine tasting, arrange a driver or transport in advance. Return to your Motovun-area accommodation for the final night.

Is a week enough for Pula, Rovinj and inland Istria?

Yes. Two nights in each base leave one full day in the south, one around Rovinj and one in the Motovun area, plus sightseeing on the transfer days. Choose between the longer excursions instead of adding every nearby town. An early departure may require moving the final night to Pula.

Can I follow this Istrian loop without driving?

A car is useful for the Motovun stay, Grožnjan and rural visits. Pula and Rovinj can also form a holiday without driving, but the inland section would need arranged transport or a different timetable. Within historic centres, park outside restricted streets and walk according to the accommodation’s directions.
