Getting to Himarë and along the coast

Himarë has no airport or port connections of its own. You arrive by road from Vlorë over the Llogara mountains or from Sarandë along the southern coast.

Direct from Tirana

Six direct buses a day run to Himarë from Tirana's South and North Terminal, from early morning until an 18:00 departure. Plan on about three and a half hours before summer traffic.

From Vlorë

GjirafaTravel currently lists Vlorë departures at 10:00 and 12:30, with scheduled journeys of about two and a half hours. Confirm your date, boarding address and Himarë drop-off; some tickets name the MALPOS Petrol stop. Ask which road the service follows if seeing the Llogara pass is important to you.

From Sarandë or Corfu

The Sarandë-to-Himarë platform currently shows five departures, with journeys around an hour and a half and fares near €10. Check the specific booking for the pickup and arrival stop, then arrange any transfer to a Livadh or hillside hotel. Through-route availability can differ from the reverse journey.

On foot and by taxi

Spile and Potam are linked by the bay-side road; Livadh and the castle village are a short taxi ride or a steep walk.

Boats to the coves

Boat trips from the town beach visit sea caves and coves such as Kakome that are hard to reach by road. Choose licensed operators with life jackets on board.

Driving the coast

Porto Palermo's castle, built in 1804 for Ali Pasha, is a few kilometres south, with Qeparo and Borsh beyond. Coastal roads are narrow and winding; avoid driving them at night.
