The Parthenon, the gateway of the Propylaia and the Erechtheion belong to the great fifth-century BC rebuilding of Athens. Seeing the hill and then its museum makes the columns, sculpture and surviving fragments easier to understand than a photograph from below.
Delos combines a sanctuary associated with Apollo with the remains of a trading city: temple foundations, the Lion Terrace and houses with mosaics. It is an excursion from Mykonos, not another overnight stop, so you can explore without carrying luggage between hotels.
Fira's bus connections make an Oia visit and a Kamari beach outing practical from the same room. The old-port cable car also serves the volcano excursion. Choose a hotel near the centre for those outings; caldera-facing rooms can involve many steps and a higher bill.

Keep all four nights in Fira, near the bus station if you plan to use public transport. You can visit Oia and Kamari from here, walk the caldera rim and reach the cable car for an old-port boat tour without changing hotels.
Each transfer day keeps sightseeing light; the days either side carry the route's real content.
Take the airport metro towards the centre when a through service is running, or the X95 express bus to Syntagma. The official Athens guide currently warns of evening Line 3 works on Sunday–Thursday, so a late arrival needs a fresh service check rather than an assumption of a direct train. Leave luggage at your Plaka or Monastiraki hotel, then use the pedestrian streets below the Acropolis for an undemanding first evening. You can see the illuminated hill from below without using tomorrow's archaeological-site ticket. Keep the museum for the full sightseeing day, and choose a nearby taverna rather than crossing the city after the flight.

Start at the Acropolis in the cooler morning, entering at your reserved time. Travel from central Athens to Piraeus and use the departure gate on your current ticket. The sailing itself takes several hours, so leave this as a transfer day and allow extra time to reach the right quay. On Mykonos, inter-island ferries use Tourlos, the New Port, rather than Chora's Old Port; take onward transport to your hotel before sightseeing. Once checked in, walk through Chora to the windmill row and Little Venice, where buildings stand along the water's edge. For dinner, try a taverna serving meze, small dishes to share: kopanisti is a sharp, fermented Cycladic cheese, while louza is cured pork served in thin slices. These local foods make a more distinctive introduction than a beach-club menu.
Base: Mykonos
Make Ornos the main beach choice: its sandy bay is close to Mykonos Town, served by public transport and lined with places to eat. The relatively sheltered setting suits a straightforward swimming day, although conditions still depend on the wind. It is an organised beach, so ask about sunbed prices or minimum spending before settling down. Stay for one bay rather than spending the day waiting for several different buses or boats. If beach clubs and louder music are the point of your visit, choose Paradise or Super Paradise instead. Return to Chora with enough time for its smaller lanes away from the waterfront, keeping tomorrow's Delos visit separate from the beach programme.

Take a morning boat from Mykonos's Old Port to Delos, choosing the return sailing when you buy the ticket. The operator gives about thirty minutes for the crossing. Seasonal afternoon departures also run, so choose an outward and return pair that allows time for the site. On the island, concentrate on the Sanctuary of Apollo, the Lion Terrace and the House of Dionysus rather than adding a summit hike in the heat. Greek legend identifies Delos as the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis; its later trading-city remains show that it was also a busy Mediterranean port. The exposed paths and limited shade make water, a hat and suitable shoes more useful than an ambitious list of extra ruins. The museum is open, and its admission is included with the site's ticket. Return to the same Mykonos hotel, leaving luggage out of the excursion.

Take the seasonal ferry from Tourlos to Athinios on Santorini. This is another hotel-to-hotel travel day: the advertised sailing time excludes reaching the ports, boarding and the climb from Athinios to town. Use an arrival-linked bus when it suits the sailing or arrange a transfer in advance, particularly if you have heavy luggage. Check into Fira for four consecutive nights, then walk a manageable section of the caldera-edge lanes near the centre. The sea below occupies a volcanic basin, with the Kameni islets inside it; seeing that relationship from the rim helps explain the boat trip planned for day 8. There is no need to hurry to Oia on arrival, because day 7 is reserved for that village.

Take the bus from Fira to Oia and spend the day among the village's whitewashed lanes and caldera viewpoints. Make the castle area your main orientation point, then explore away from the busiest path instead of arriving only for a sunset photograph. Oia offers a different view along the cliff from Fira, but its popularity means that the best-known corners can become crowded. Decide whether to return before sunset or stay for the evening, using the actual day's last-bus time to plan the journey back. If you stay late, arrange the return before the busiest departures rather than assuming a taxi will be waiting. You sleep in Fira again tonight: the visit does not add another hotel check-out or a fourth overnight base.

Take the three-hour volcano and hot-springs boat trip from Fira's Old Port, reached by cable car. On Nea Kameni, the marked crater circuit starts and finishes at the landing area: about 2.6 km on a moderate, rough volcanic trail. Allow roughly 60–90 minutes for the guided walk and stops, within the operator's time ashore; the boat and cable car take additional time. There is no shade, so wear closed shoes and carry water, a hat and sun protection. The lava slopes give a view of the caldera from inside its ring. At Palea Kameni the boat anchors offshore; the roughly thirty-metre swim towards the warm water is for strong swimmers, and you can stay aboard. Book the three-hour version rather than the longer Thirassia extension. This Old Port is different from Athinios, where the inter-island ferry arrived.
Base: Fira
Use the direct Fira bus for a morning at Kamari, a walkable seafront resort with dark volcanic sand and pebbles, cafes and places to swim. Bring footwear for the hot beach and water's edge. After returning to Fira, take a prearranged transfer to SantoWines near Pyrgos for a reserved tasting or winery visit; this avoids trying to connect the beach and winery by an assumed direct bus. The winery's terraces overlook the caldera, and its tasting explains Assyrtiko, the white grape closely associated with Santorini's volcanic vineyards. Arrange the return too, so nobody needs to drive after drinking. At a taverna, look for Santorini fava, a smooth split-pea dish often served with onion or capers. Skip Red Beach on this itinerary: unstable cliffs and access warnings make it unsuitable as an ordinary swimming stop.

Work backwards from the flight's check-in and boarding requirements, allowing extra time for the road and airport queues. Fira is a convenient departure base, but its relatively short distance from the airport does not guarantee a slow morning. Check whether your ticket is a direct international flight or a connection through Athens, and whether separate tickets leave you responsible for delays and checked luggage. Keep this day free of a boat tour or a trip across the island. If the flight is later, use the remaining time near the hotel and agree a luggage arrangement with it after check-out; an early flight simply needs a transfer. A return flight from Athens instead of Santorini requires an additional connection that must be planned before confirming the island hotels.

Seajets and Golden Star Ferries serve the seasonal Tourlos–Athinios link, generally March–November. Arrival at Athinios still needs a bus or booked transfer uphill to Fira.

Yes, if ten days includes arrival and departure and you keep the three-base plan. It gives one main Athens sightseeing day, a Delos excursion and beach time on Mykonos, then three full days on Santorini between its transfer and departure days. Adding another island would reduce time in these places.
It is convenient because Santorini is the final stop, provided the available flights suit your onward journey. Compare a direct flight or protected connection with the price and time of returning through Athens. If tickets are separate, leave room for disruption and luggage collection rather than treating the connection as guaranteed.
Book once the travel dates and hotel sequence are settled, particularly for summer. Piraeus–Mykonos operates year-round, while the direct Mykonos–Santorini link has a seasonal timetable.
