Follow the Mediterranean east through Kaleiçi, ancient Side and Alanya’s castle headland, with two nights in each base.
Antalya, Side and Alanya give this week three different settings: a harbour city, a Roman peninsula and a Seljuk castle above broad beaches. Sleep twice in each place and move east on days three and five. Each stop then has an arrival afternoon and a complete local day, rather than a succession of check-ins.
Begin in Kaleiçi for its lanes and small Ethnography Museum; spend Side’s morning among civic ruins and its museum collections; finish with Alanya’s cable-car ascent and castle grounds. The afternoons leave room for the sea. Perge, Aspendos and mountain outings belong to a different version of the week, with something removed to make space.
The simplest direction is Antalya Airport in and Gazipaşa–Alanya Airport out. Choose flights before rooms: an Antalya departure adds a substantial westbound return. The priced example uses private road transfers, while public coaches via Manavgat remain an alternative for travellers comfortable with terminal connections.
The Ethnography Museum’s two Ottoman mansions show household life, textiles and Turkish-Islamic objects. Its setting makes a short indoor visit easy to combine with the harbour, without a separate journey across Antalya.
A nearby room lets you separate the museum and exposed ruins from the waterfront evening. Colonnaded streets, the agora and sea-facing temples sit within the modern settlement, giving the middle stop a different scale from a resort compound.
The cable car lifts you above Cleopatra Beach toward the fortified headland. The upper settlement and paid inner castle are distinct parts of the visit; the harbour below explains why this ridge mattered to a Mediterranean port.

Choose ancient Side or its nearby western waterfront to reach the ruins before beach traffic arrives. A distant Manavgat-area resort changes this into a commuting stop. Two nights let you use the museum and sea at different times without another hotel move.

Castle headland, Red Tower and Cleopatra Beach
Damlataş or the eastern end of Cleopatra Beach puts the cable-car station and shore within the same neighbourhood. Harbour accommodation favours evening walks by the Red Tower. A room high on the castle hill adds slopes to every journey for dinner or swimming.
Watch out: The cable car reaches the hill, but paths and the inner castle still require walking.

Antalya Airport is the entry point, with a booked transfer to Kaleiçi keeping luggage handling simple. Once settled, walk down through the old town to the harbour and look back at the houses above the cliffs. The change in level explains why a waterfront room and a street-level taxi meeting point can be different places. Leave the lanes around the marina for dinner rather than crossing the city on arrival. If daylight remains, continue through the old town toward Hadrian’s Gate, taking a café stop as part of the walk. A beach-first traveller can instead use this afternoon for a short shore visit, but there is no need to make a distant archaeological site fit around a flight.
Overnight: Antalya
Use the Ethnography Museum in Kaleiçi for the morning’s indoor visit. Its two historic mansions connect the restored streets with household objects, weaving and Ottoman-era life; the collection is more intimate than a survey of every ancient city in the region. Admission is free, and the current ministry record lists daily opening from 08:30, so an early visit leaves room for a long lunch. Antalya’s main archaeological museum is closed at the time of review and is not part of this day. Afterwards, head west to Konyaaltı for the promenade and pebble shore. Take footwear suitable for stones, and choose your own patch of coast rather than assuming every beach club is included. Return to the old town for the second night.
Overnight: Antalya
Leave Antalya after breakfast and take the coast road to Side. The transfer is the morning’s main task; keeping Perge and Aspendos out of this journey gives you an afternoon that still belongs to the new base. On arrival, set out toward the peninsula and notice where the modern streets meet the ancient remains. Side Museum occupies a Roman bath building, making it a useful landmark for tomorrow’s circuit even if you do not enter today. Continue toward the harbour and Temple of Apollo in the later light. For dinner, compare a seafront table with the quieter streets behind it: the view is the reason to choose the first, while distance from the busiest promenade may suit a longer meal.
Overnight: Side
Begin with Side Museum, whose sculptures, inscriptions and architectural fragments help identify what you will see outside. Its bath-house setting makes the building part of the visit, rather than just a room of objects. Continue through the archaeological area and colonnaded streets, then look for the agora’s civic layout before returning to the waterfront temples. The ancient theatre has been closed since 29 November 2024 for restoration; do not expect an interior visit until the responsible operator confirms reopening. Side remains worthwhile without it. Use the midday hours for lunch or the nearby beach, then return to the sea-facing end of the peninsula later. This second evening lets you enjoy the waterfront without combining it with yesterday’s hotel arrival.
Overnight: Side
The eastbound road brings you to Alanya for the final two nights. A room near Damlataş makes the beach and tomorrow’s cable-car ascent convenient, while the harbour has the stronger evening waterfront setting. After check-in, walk to the harbour and view the Red Tower from outside. Its octagonal form and brick upper levels mark the medieval port defences, a different scene from the Roman streets in Side. The paid tower interior is optional and is outside the core budget; seeing the exterior does not depend on climbing its steep staircase. Continue along the shore or choose a short swim if conditions suit. Save the hilltop for a separate morning so that the first Alanya afternoon can stay at sea level.
Overnight: Alanya
Take the Alanya cable car from Damlataş when it opens at 09:30, then walk through the upper settlement toward the inner castle. The aerial ride and the paid castle entrance are separate purchases. Follow the surviving walls and viewpoints at your own pace; the headland contains historic houses and streets as well as the enclosed monument, so reaching the upper station does not complete the visit. The castle currently closes at 18:30 with last ticket sales at 18:00, even though the cable car operates later. After descending, use Cleopatra Beach for lunch and an afternoon shore break. Travellers who find steep or uneven paths difficult can keep the beach and harbour as the main day and ask the operator about the specific accessible portions before buying tickets.
Overnight: Alanya
A Gazipaşa flight gives this eastbound itinerary its simplest finish. The airport publishes a 40 km distance from Alanya; the priced road transfer is about 40 minutes before traffic, and the airport recommends reaching the terminal at least two hours before a domestic flight or three before an international one. That airport time is additional to the drive. For a late departure, keep the last outing along the central shore, where returning for bags is straightforward. An Antalya flight requires a different, longer westbound transfer and a fresh cost calculation. If its timing forces an overnight near the airport, extend the trip to eight days and seven nights rather than fitting that room into the six-night plan.

Antalya Side
Allow roughly two hours for the private Antalya–Side road move, including pickup and traffic. The public-coach alternative reaches Manavgat Otogar; add a local connection to ancient Side rather than treating the terminal as your room.

Side Alanya
Side–Alanya takes about an hour by private transfer before traffic or address adjustments. Coaches instead leave Manavgat Otogar and arrive at Alanya Otogar. A Cleopatra-area room avoids a further cross-city journey to the cable-car district.

Side
No. This version uses hotel transfers, and the two intercity coach routes provide an alternative via Manavgat Otogar. A rental car earns its place when you want to replace a local day with Perge, Aspendos or another outing beyond the towns. For that version, compare the one-way rental and airport return terms as well as the daily rate.
Side combines a working waterfront with an ancient town. Its museum occupies a Roman bath and displays finds from local excavations; the colonnaded streets and temples remain part of the peninsula’s landscape. A resort outside ancient Side offers a different stay, often requiring a journey back to the sights. Choose the room location according to which of those experiences you want.
Choose Gazipaşa when a suitable flight serves your destination: it is the airport closest to the final base and keeps this route moving east. Antalya can be the better flight choice, but then include the westbound road transfer in both the departure day and the budget. Compare flight and ground costs together before committing to the Alanya nights.
Choose one as a replacement for part of the core plan. Perge gives Antalya a larger Roman-site day; Aspendos offers a substantial surviving theatre and aqueducts on UNESCO’s Tentative List. A hired vehicle makes either outing easier to organise, but the quoted hotel-to-hotel transfers do not include a sightseeing stop. Add the admission and a specific waiting or excursion fare.
May, June, September and October are useful planning windows, with the exact balance depending on how much heat you enjoy. Antalya’s long-term average daytime high is about 34°C in July and August, compared with 26.6°C in October. Autumn also brings more rain. Use those figures for seasonal expectations, then use the forecast and local beach conditions for the actual swimming day.
For a six-day trip flying both ways through Antalya, omit Alanya and give Antalya and Side the available nights. If the outbound flight is already booked from Gazipaşa, shorten the Antalya stay and retain the eastbound finish instead. Recalculate the nights and transfers for that shorter route: it is a separate five-night plan, not the same seven-day schedule compressed into fewer hours.
