Turquoise water between limestone cliffs in Bacuit Bay, El Nido, beneath a blue sky

El Nido stays: choose your base around Bacuit Bay

Loading El Nido hotel search

Six things to know about an El Nido stay

Bacuit Bay is the starting point for the limestone islands and lagoons. The tour desks cluster around El Nido town, while beach accommodation stretches south towards Marimegmeg and north past Lio to Nacpan. Compare the hotel pin with your tour meeting point before choosing a room.

Nights to book Four, or five with a spare

Book four nights for two full boat days and a mainland outing. Arriving in the afternoon and leaving in the morning still gives you three complete days between them. A five-night stay leaves another day for a dive or a guided paddle without changing hotels.

The capital connection Clark, north of Metro Manila

El Nido’s airport uses the code ENI; Puerto Princesa uses PPS. Capital-area flights to El Nido depart from Clark, north of Metro Manila. A booking with a Manila stay in the middle therefore needs road transport to Clark before the flight.

What the boat day feels like A full day around Bacuit Bay

Allow around seven hours for a group island tour. Expect repeated beach landings, time aboard a bangka and a lunch stop between swims. Big Lagoon’s paddle and a reef snorkel use different skills; you can keep a life jacket on and sit out a water stop.

A short outing above town Taraw’s guided Canopy Walk

Choose the Canopy Walk for a guided view above the town roofs and Bacuit Bay. El Nido Booking sells basic and extended ticket options around ₱400–650; allow about one hour. The route uses stairs and a suspension bridge. Start in the morning, with the last entry around 3pm.

A land day worth saving Nacpan’s long beach

Nacpan’s long curve of sand is a mainland outing north of town. Its southern end meets Calitang beach near the twin-beach headland. Beach clubs and restaurants serve different stretches of shore, so choose a drop-off near the part you want to spend the day.

Crafts and a coffee stop Kalye Artisano at Lio

Kalye Artisano brings craft shops and places to eat together within the Lio estate. Browse locally made pieces, then stop at Charlie’s Kubo for coffee and pastries. It makes a short land outing between island-tour days, especially when you are already staying at Lio.

StartBooker answer

Where should I stay in El Nido for island hopping?

Choose Corong-Corong for a first El Nido stay: its west-facing shore has beach cafés, while town’s tour meeting points are a short tricycle ride away. Stay in town if you want to walk to restaurants and boats. Lio suits a holiday centred on the beach estate, with airport access close by. Save Nacpan for the end of a longer trip; moving there after the island tours gives you uninterrupted beach days. Four nights near town leave three full days to explore Bacuit Bay and the mainland.

Plan your El Nido boat days

Give your arrival airport or ferry, the hotel area and your number of nights. Build a stay with two different island routes, a mainland beach outing and a departure day that fits the road or boat transfer.

Eight El Nido bases, from the busy waterfront to private islands

Use these eight areas to compare the hotel’s surroundings. Town and Caalan are closest to the waterfront meeting points; an address at Nacpan or on the east coast changes the journey at the start of your day.

How to split your nights

A short El Nido trip benefits from unpacking once. A longer holiday can start beside the tour desks, then move to an outlying beach. These plans cover different reasons to make that move.

Four nights with two boat days

Corong-Corong or Caalan, close to the boats.

Choose this ifKeep all four nights in one town-area hotel. Put the two island routes on separate full days, leaving your third day for a mainland beach or a short guided walk.

Trade-offNo overnight stay on a remote beach.

Avoid this ifA late arrival followed by an early departure leaves little room for another hotel move.

AlternativeWith six nights, use four near town and two at Nacpan after the boat outings.

Backpacking on a budget

El Nido town for hostels and walkable tours.

Choose this ifA town guesthouse saves a daily ride when you join group tours. Spend the transport saving on a second island route; Calle Hama’s cafés and the side-street eateries are easy to reach between outings.

Trade-offNoise.

Avoid this ifA dorm beside a beachfront bar is a poor match for an early-start holiday.

AlternativeChoose a room inland from the main beach if you want the same walkable location with less bar noise.

Families with children

Several beach days with one boat outing.

Choose this ifSpend five nights at Lio when most days revolve around sand and short outings. Put one island tour in the middle of the stay, so neither flight day needs a boat connection.

Trade-offFurther from town.

Avoid this ifThree consecutive group-tour days mean repeated rides away from the estate.

AlternativeA hotel pool gives younger children an alternative to spending every afternoon in the sea.

Honeymoon or special occasion

Split the stay between mainland and island resort.

Choose this ifFor a six-night celebration trip, use three nights near town for sightseeing and three at an island resort. Put the resort stay second to finish with meals and outings close to your room.

Trade-offCost versus flexibility.

Avoid this ifA one-night island stay leaves a large share of the visit to check-in and boat transfers.

AlternativeKeep the whole stay in Corong-Corong if choosing your own town restaurants matters more than resort dining.

Several days of diving or kiting

Town for Bacuit Bay dives; Sibaltan for kite days.

Choose this ifChoose a town-area stay for repeated dive departures in Bacuit Bay. For an east-coast kite holiday, book Sibaltan as its own stay and finish the town-based island trips before moving across the municipality.

Trade-offTwo very different bases.

Avoid this ifDaily crossings between Sibaltan and the town tour desks waste an activity-focused stay.

AlternativeA guided Canopy Walk fits a short mainland morning; it does not need a hotel change.

Continuing to Coron

Town or Caalan, near the ferry port.

Choose this ifTown or Caalan works for the final night after a stay on an outlying beach. You can reach the port without starting with Nacpan’s longer road journey, and return any rental vehicle before departure.

Trade-offFinish near the port, away from remote beaches.

Avoid this ifAn island-resort checkout needs another boat connection before reaching the ferry.

Getting to El Nido and around

Fly into El Nido’s Lio Airport (ENI), arrive by road from Puerto Princesa (PPS), or sail into the town waterfront from Coron. Give the hotel your arrival point when arranging its transfer.

Three ways in

Lio Airport to town

Lio Airport to town

Fly from Clark to El Nido in about 1½ hours, with one-way fares roughly ₱4,500–9,000. From a Makati hotel, Arrive Pampanga charges about ₱6,500 for a private van to Clark, taking two to three hours. At Lio, HTT’s town transfer is ₱300 per tricycle or ₱1,500 for a van carrying up to eight people; allow fifteen to twenty minutes.

Puerto Princesa by road

Book an HTT shared seat for about ₱800 or a private van for ₱7,000, carrying up to eight passengers. The journey from Puerto Princesa takes about five to six hours before any wait for a shared departure. Ask for your El Nido hotel as the drop-off when arranging a private transfer; a distant Nacpan address needs a different road journey.

From Coron by ferry

Atienza’s ferry leaves Coron at 7am and reaches El Nido around 11am; the fare is about ₱2,600 per person. Arrive at Coron’s port by 5am for its two-hour check-in. Book through atienzainterislandferriesinc.com. El Nido’s ferry port is beside the town waterfront, separate from Lio Airport and the inland van terminal.

Getting around

Tricycles for the short hops

Tricycles for the short hops

For town to Vanilla Beach at Marimegmeg, allow about fifteen minutes and ₱150–200 per private tricycle. Corong-Corong to Vanilla Beach is around ₱150. Set the fare before leaving and arrange the return from the beach entrance when taking a late-afternoon outing.

A scooter for mainland outings

AAE Motorbike Rental lists a Honda Beat at about ₱500 per day or a Honda Click at ₱700. Book through elnidomotorbike.com for mainland outings when you already ride confidently. Leave scooter hire for a land day: during a full-day island tour, it stays parked near the boat departure.

Nacpan without a scooter

HTT sells Nacpan shuttle seats for about ₱400 one way or ₱700 return, with the beach roughly forty-five to sixty minutes from town. Book through hhospitality.tours. Choose the return departure when reserving; an overnight beach stay needs a return on the following day instead of the usual same-day ride.

An east-coast transfer to Sibaltan

Dive Sibaltan lists private town transfers at about ₱2,500 one way or ₱4,500 return, taking roughly one hour. Shared van seats are around ₱250 per person, with departures depending on demand. Book the private ride through divesibaltan.com when moving with luggage; it serves a separate east-coast stay after the Bacuit Bay outings.

Fees and bookings

Tour A: Big Lagoon and nearby islands

Tour A: Big Lagoon and nearby islands

El Nido Paradise’s ₱1,500 group Tour A visits Big Lagoon, Secret Lagoon, Shimizu Island and Seven Commandos. Allow around seven hours for the outing. Bento lunch, water and a mask with snorkel are included. Arrange your own walk or ride to the meeting point; hotel pickup is excluded. Book the route at elnidoparadise.com.

Tour C: a different set of beaches

Tour C costs about ₱1,700 with the same operator and visits Helicopter Island, Matinloc, Secret Beach, Talisay and Hidden Beach. Allow around seven hours, with lunch, water and snorkelling gear included. Entering Matinloc Shrine is optional and adds about ₱200. Combine this with Tour A for two island days with different stops.

Municipal and lagoon fees

El Nido Paradise lists the ETDF for non-Palawan visitors at ₱400 per adult and ₱250 for children aged six to thirteen; under-sixes are exempt. Cauayan charges the adult fee from age twelve, so confirm a child’s charge when booking. Keep your receipt for later tours. Big Lagoon adds ₱200 per person and about ₱350 per two-seat kayak, separate from the group tour.

El Nido with limited mobility

Discuss the whole boat day

Discuss the whole boat day

Group boats usually board from the shore; getting to a bangka can involve sand, wading and a ladder. Tell the crew about limited mobility when arranging the tour so they can plan a suitable landing and boarding method. Taraw’s Canopy Walk has stairs and a suspension bridge. Lio’s beachfront restaurants offer a land outing without the boat transfers.

Seasons, fees and the price of a boat day

Boat-tour fares are per person, while private van and tricycle prices cover the vehicle. These totals show the costs for two adults, with paid extras separated from the basic tour fares.

When to go

December to May: the drier stretch
  • December to May: the drier stretch

El Nido’s drier season runs broadly from December to May, with April usually the driest month. March and April suit a stay with several full beach days. Midday shade matters on Nacpan’s long sand and during a lagoon paddle; put a guided Canopy Walk in the morning.

  • June to November: allow a spare day

Rain is more frequent from June to November, especially around August. Rough water can stop group tours and ferries. A trip continuing to Coron benefits from another night in El Nido, and an international departure is easier to protect with the previous night in the departure city.

  • Christmas and New Year rates

Cauayan’s peak-rate calendar covers 22 December 2026 to 5 January 2027. If your dates are flexible, compare the holiday week with a stay after 5 January. For an island resort, compare meal and airport-boat inclusions alongside the room rate; these can be a large part of the stay’s cost.

Where El Nido money goes

Two island tours for a couple
  • Two island tours for a couple

Two adults taking Tour A and Tour C pay ₱6,400 in tour fares. Add ₱800 in municipal fees and ₱400 for Big Lagoon admission: the total is about ₱7,600 before rides. One shared ₱350 kayak brings it to ₱7,950. Optional Matinloc Shrine entry adds another ₱400 if both of you visit.

  • PPS transfer: seats or one van?

Two HTT shared seats cost ₱1,600, against ₱7,000 for a private van. Eight passengers paying separately spend ₱6,400; the private service then costs only ₱600 more for the group. The road journey still takes five to six hours, but your party travels together and can arrange its own pickup.

  • Clark arrival for two people

Two Clark–El Nido flight seats at roughly ₱4,500–9,000 each, a ₱6,500 Makati–Clark van and a ₱300 airport tricycle total about ₱15,800–24,800 for two. Add baggage according to the selected airfare. That total helps compare a direct El Nido arrival with flying into Puerto Princesa and paying for the longer van journey.

Mistakes that cost a boat day

A morning tour before the Coron ferry
  • A morning tour before the Coron ferry

The El Nido–Coron Atienza sailing leaves at 12:30pm; port arrival is 10:30am. A full-day island tour cannot finish before that check-in. Travel to Coron on a separate day, even if the ferry’s four-hour crossing leaves an evening free at the other end.

  • Counting the airport night as an island day

A Clark flight followed by a hotel transfer uses part of the arrival day. A Puerto Princesa flight adds a five-to-six-hour van ride. Count the full days between check-in and departure when booking tours; three nights usually means only two complete days in El Nido.

  • Taking a rented kayak across the bay

A paddle within Big Lagoon is a short activity with a boat waiting nearby. Crossing independently from town to Cadlao puts you in open water with a return journey still ahead. Choose a staffed boat or guided kayak outing for that route instead of basing it on a rough paddling-time estimate.

Can I see Big Lagoon and Small Lagoon on an ordinary Tour A?

No. El Nido Paradise’s Tour A visits Big Lagoon; Small Lagoon needs a separate route. Secret Lagoon, which is on Tour A, is a different stop again. Book the lagoon you want by name.

Is El Nido town beach good for a whole swimming day?

Choose Marimegmeg or Lio for that. Tour boats use the town waterfront, where the restaurants and meeting points are the main attraction. A town hotel still works well when you spend your daylight hours on island outings.

Can I explore El Nido without hiring a scooter?

Yes. Town restaurants and tour desks are walkable; tricycles cover the nearby beach areas, and a shuttle reaches Nacpan. Boat tours do the island travel. You can arrange a mainland beach outing without riding the longer road north yourself.

Should I book El Nido tours before choosing my hotel?

Choose the hotel area first. Group trips begin near town, while an island resort may arrange its own outings. Booking both independently can leave you paying for a road or boat connection between two separate plans.

How long is the boat transfer to Lagen?

About thirty minutes from the Lio area by resort boat. Allow for that crossing as part of your airport arrival when planning an island stay.

Can a child join a group island tour?

Yes. Allow around seven hours for a group Tour A, with beach boarding and water stops. A private outing can reduce the number of stops. For younger children, a Lio beach day is an easier alternative to spending most of the day aboard a boat.
