Shore snorkelling, a canyon and inland Bohol

Take this week if you want active days on two islands without adding a flight between the stays. Moalboal supplies the first water outing: the sardines gather close enough to Panagsama for a guided swim from shore. Badian’s canyon uses the next full day. On Bohol, the hills and forest sanctuary take you inland, before a morning boat reaches Balicasag’s reef. The route ends with three Panglao nights, so the countryside drive and boat trip start from the same coast.

Cebu City and Moalboal sit on opposite sides of Cebu island. The southbound bus follows the western road through Barili, while the ferry leaves from the city on the east coast. You therefore retrace the road on day four before crossing the Bohol Strait. That is the longest move of the week.

Panagsama is a dive-town strip, with boats, reef entrances and places to eat above a rocky shore. You choose it for access to the sardines, not long walks on sand. Alona changes that at the end of the trip: the hotel lanes lead to a sandy beach and restaurants, while drivers collect guests for the interior.

The week suits people comfortable spending several hours outdoors. The canyon day is more demanding than the snorkelling: it involves wet-rock walking, swimming and moving through the river with a guide. The Chocolate Hills viewpoint adds a stair climb on the following island. Between those days, day four is devoted to transport; the Bohol arrival is an evening on Alona, not another booked excursion.

Panagsama’s shore sardines

Swim out with a guide from the Moalboal shore to find the moving school, with the entry point chosen for that day.

Kawasan’s river canyon

Follow the guided Badian route through freshwater pools and rock passages towards Kawasan Falls.

Carmen and Corella

Compare the open hillside views at Chocolate Hills with a guided forest visit to the resting tarsiers.

Best for

  • Snorkellers who also want a canyon day and Bohol’s inland sights
  • Two or three friends sharing the Bohol car and private reef boat

StartBooker answer

Can I see Moalboal and Bohol in one week?

Yes. Spend one night in Cebu City, two beside Panagsama’s reef and three on Panglao. The bus south puts you near Moalboal’s sardines; an included hotel pickup handles the following Kawasan canyon day. Return through Cebu City for the ferry to Bohol, then visit Carmen and Corella before a private Balicasag morning. There are three full excursion days, plus a snorkelling afternoon on arrival in Moalboal. No flight is needed between the three hotel bases. Day seven finishes with the Bohol–Panglao flight to Manila; any overnight before a separate international departure adds another night.

Seven days, with the longest move in the middle

Snorkel after arriving in Moalboal, spend the following day in Badian, then use the two full Bohol days for the interior and the reef.

1 Day 1 Arrive in Cebu City’s downtown

Land at Mactan–Cebu and take Cebu Tours’ prebooked sedan to your city hotel, about ₱2,000 for up to three people. Reserve at cebutours.ph at least a day ahead and allow around forty-five to ninety minutes for the bridge and city roads. Choose a downtown room near E-Mall and Cebu South Bus Terminal for the morning departure. If you arrive early, leave the bags there and spend around two hours between Magellan’s Cross, the Basilica del Santo Niño and the free National Museum beside Plaza Independencia. The museum closes at 6pm. Eat lechon with puso, rice packed in woven palm leaves, before walking back through downtown; a late landing leaves the heritage walk for another trip.

2 Day 2 Ceres south, then swim with the sardines

Walk about five to ten minutes from a hotel near E-Mall to Cebu South Bus Terminal and board a Ceres bus signed Bato via Barili around 6–7am. Pay at the terminal: roughly ₱200–250 per person for the air-conditioned bus and two-and-a-half to three-and-a-half hours to Moalboal. A private tricycle to Panagsama is about ₱100–200 per vehicle and takes ten to fifteen minutes. After leaving your bag at the room, join Highland Adventures’ one-hour shore snorkel from about ₱500 per person, booked at highlandadventuresph.com. The guide, goggles and flotation gear are included; reach the Panagsama meeting point yourself. Eat chicken adobo with rice nearby, then follow the guide into the water to find the sardines and look for turtles.

4 Day 4 Return to Cebu for the afternoon Bohol ferry

Leave Panagsama around 6am by private tricycle, about ₱100–200 per vehicle, to catch the bus north. Allow roughly three-and-a-half to four hours to Cebu South Bus Terminal, at ₱200–250 per person. A 7 October 2026 OceanJet example sails at 1pm and reaches Tagbilaran at 3pm, for ₱960 per tourist-class seat. Buy at oceanjet.net and reach the pier an hour ahead. Eat lunch near the South Bus Terminal before the taxi ride, leaving time for the pier check-in. Southwest’s prebooked Tagbilaran–Alona car costs about ₱1,000 for up to four and takes thirty to fifty minutes. The full hotel-to-hotel move needs about ten hours.

Carmen’s Chocolate Hills are roughly one-and-a-half to two hours from Panglao; allow about ₱150 per nonresident adult for the stair-accessed viewing deck. Stop for a rice-and-fish lunch in Loboc, then aim to reach Corella by 2:30pm for time before its 3:30pm closing. The guided sanctuary visit costs about ₱150 per person. Stay close to the guide, keep voices low and turn camera flash off. The car and these two admissions total around ₱3,600 for two adults before lunch.

Add about ₱500 per foreign adult for the environmental payment, entry and mask rental, bringing a two-person outing to roughly ₱4,700 before food. Booking tips

  • The selected transport, excursions, countryside entries and Manila flights come to about ₱25,170–29,570 for two adults. Add six hotel nights, the flight into Cebu, meals outside the included canyon lunch, port and luggage charges, and optional photography or zipline purchases. Any extra Manila or Cebu overnight is beyond this week.
  • Reserve Highland’s shore snorkel at least twelve hours before the intended start. Closer bookings need a direct message to the company.
  • A three-person party fits the priced Balicasag boat and Cebu airport sedan. The Bohol countryside car takes four, but a fourth person changes the boat and airport booking. Use the party size when comparing the whole week’s quotes.

Questions about the shore swim, canyon and departure

Can the guide film the sardine swim?

Yes. Highland offers GoPro hire for about ₱500 per camera, on top of the shore-snorkel ticket. It is a camera charge, so two friends can share one hire instead of paying that extra twice.

What does Highland charge for a child’s snorkel?

Children aged four and older pay the same published shore-snorkel price as adults, from about ₱500. Children younger than four are free with a guardian. Tell Highland the ages when reserving the family places.

Must I take the highest canyon jumps?

No. The guided Kawasan route has ways around the larger jumps. Tell the guide you want those walking alternatives; the excursion still involves moving through water and over wet rocks. A zipline at the start is a separate optional activity.

What luggage is included on OceanJet Tourist?

One hand-carried bag weighing up to ten kilograms, within 25 × 35 × 40cm. A larger suitcase needs the ferry’s separate baggage arrangements. The flight allowance on day seven is set by your airline fare, so price that independently.

Could I finish with a Cebu flight instead?

Yes. Return from Alona to Tagbilaran, then take the roughly two-hour OceanJet to Cebu, about ₱960 per seat. Allow a separate Cebu overnight before an international flight. That extra room is outside the six nights in this route.

When is a useful month for this Cebu–Bohol week?

March–April is relatively drier in the local Cebu and Bohol records, though rain occurs throughout the year. May is hotter in Mactan’s long-term averages. Keep the boat and canyon plans flexible if rough seas or heavy rain interrupt an outing.
