Six island details worth knowing

Siquijor names both the island and a municipality. An accommodation address needs the town or village as well as the island name; the ferry ticket needs the actual port.

Island and harbour names Siquijor town and Larena are separate

The northwestern town of Siquijor has the port used by the OceanJet examples in this guide. Larena is another harbour, not another name for that same landing. San Juan lies farther along the western coast. In Siquijor town, St Francis of Assisi church and its separate bell tower mark the centre; Rizal Street has bakeries and canteens.

Lazi’s two buildings Church and convent face each other

The church was completed in 1884, its bell tower in 1885 and the convent between 1887 and 1891. The National Historical Commission records the complex as a National Historical Landmark. Across the road, the convent’s U-shaped plan and long upper storey offer a different building to examine from the church’s coral-stone facing.

An inland cave outing Cantabon, beside Mt Bandilaan

The provincial tourism office describes Cantabon as an approximately 800-metre cave on Mt Bandilaan’s northeastern side. Its named formations include crystal terraces, the King’s Bed, Shower Bell and Angel’s Bath. Arrange a local guide and ask about the route and equipment before travelling inland.

Breakfast and dinner in Maite Republika’s published dishes

Republika’s menu offers tortang talong, an omelette made with grilled aubergine, tomato and onion. Shakshuka and a tofu scramble give other breakfast choices. Later dishes include pork sisig with chayote, garlic, egg and calamansi, plus vegetable spring rolls and pasta options. The attached menu is dated May 2023, so use it for dish ideas and get the current prices at the restaurant. Its own locally brewed ABC ales are served on draught.

An extra offshore day Apo through Coco Grove

Coco Grove advertises an Apo Island snorkelling trip with a minimum group of fifteen and an 08:00–17:00 programme. The boat, basic marine park fee and buffet beach lunch are listed; a snorkelling guide and equipment cost extra. Ask the resort whether a departure will form during your stay before adding a night for it. The snorkelling trip and its separate diving offer have different inclusions, so request the one you intend to join.

Healing traditions Mt Bandilaan and local hosts

The provincial office identifies Mt Bandilaan as a source of plants used by traditional healers. A private meeting with a healer needs an introduction and the host’s agreement. Ask the host what the meeting involves and obtain permission before taking photographs.

Where should I base a first Siquijor stay?

San Juan suits a first stay combining coastal restaurants with trips to Lazi and Cambugahay. Choose the actual village along its shore: Maite’s dining addresses and Tubod’s reef entry are different locations. Siquijor town puts you beside the northwestern ferry port, while Lazi and Maria suit stays centred on southern heritage or the eastern coast. Three nights leave two full days. Plan a waterfall-and-history outing and a coastal day, with Tubod snorkelling only when its published reef calendar allows it.

Getting to Siquijor and around

Dumaguete and Tagbilaran serve the island’s northwestern port. A Cebu flight lands at Siquijor airport instead; reserve the onward road ride for the endpoint actually shown on your booking.

Ferries and flights

Dumaguete to Siquijor

OceanJet’s 11 October 2026 example leaves Dumaguete at 11:00 and reaches Siquijor at 11:40, with a ₱420 Tourist adult fare. Its 14 October return example runs 10:00–10:40 at the same quoted fare. These are dated booking examples, not a daily timetable. Allow roughly an hour at the port for check-in and boarding, separate from the crossing. If coming from a flight into Dumaguete, collect your luggage and allow for the city road transfer before choosing the sailing.

Tagbilaran for a Bohol connection

A 7 October 2026 OceanJet quote lists ₱960 Tourist from Tagbilaran to Siquijor, with 07:30–09:30 and 15:20–17:00 departures. The 14 October reverse examples are 08:20–10:20 and 14:30–16:30, also ₱960. Think of it as roughly two hours at sea, then a road journey to your hotel. A Panglao stay needs its own ride to Tagbilaran before boarding. Compare this direct Bohol connection with going back through Negros; a cheaper individual ticket does not necessarily shorten a multi-island journey.

The Cebu flight alternative

Sunlight Air currently advertises a nonstop Cebu–Siquijor route. Its airport directory identifies Siquijor as IQR at Cang-alwang, while its Cebu operation uses Terminal 1. Search the actual dates before choosing between air and sea. Give accommodation the airport arrival details when arranging pickup. A room arranged for a ferry landing will not automatically have an airport transfer attached to it.

Getting around

A custom day with a driver

SiquiRide lists Kuya Tami’s private tuk-tuk at ₱2,200 for one to three guests, from 08:00 to 17:00. Fuel, the guide and hotel collection and return are included. Entrance fees, parking, meals and swings are separate. Agree the mix of stops when booking: you can ask for Cambugahay and Lazi’s buildings instead of treating every coastal attraction as compulsory. If you only want a shorter outing, request its own quote; the full-day fare does not establish an hourly rate.

Renting for one day or several

SiquiRide’s Honda Click rate is ₱450 per day for a one-to-three-day rental, with a helmet included and fuel extra. The four-to-ten-day bracket is ₱400 per day. Match the quote to the duration you actually need. Arrange riding only if your licence and experience suit it, and inspect the bike before accepting it.

The port ride to San Juan

The local independent fare guide gives about ₱400 per trip from Siquijor Port to San Juan. Treat that as an estimate to obtain a pickup quote, not a fixed municipal fare. Allow roughly 20–30 minutes for the western ride and give the property name, passenger count and bags when reserving. Larena needs a different pickup arrangement. For the return budget below, we allow another ₱400 for a private vehicle; the accommodation’s actual quote controls the purchase.

Tickets and fees

Small admission and equipment allowances

Allow approximately ₱50 per person for Cambugahay admission, with parking and swings additional. For an open Tubod reef day, budget about ₱100 for admission and another ₱100 for a snorkel set, using Petit Futé’s spending estimate. Get a separate quote for a reef guide. At Cantabon, arrange the local guide and equipment before travelling and ask for the total cave cost.

The island’s departure payment

Current reporting of the provincial ecological fee gives ₱50 per departing adult, collected at Siquijor Port separately from the ferry fare. Reports give a reduced ₱40 category for eligible seniors and students, and exemptions for children aged six and below and residents. Keep the amount for your category available at departure. The two-adult budget allows ₱100 for this payment.

A ferry ticket for the actual passenger

Use the name on the identification you will present when making the ferry reservation. OceanJet treats tickets as non-transferable. A change in who is travelling is a ticketing question for the operator, not simply a change to the hotel pickup message. Before paying, compare the seat class, sailing date and endpoints. The dated Tourist quotes used here exclude any additional booking, baggage or port charges introduced later in the purchase.

Siquijor with limited mobility

The waterfall climb and the shore approach

Cambugahay is reached down a substantial stairway, which you climb again to leave. Consider both directions when deciding whether the visit fits your mobility. Lazi’s building exteriors offer another southern outing without requiring a waterfall swim. A Tubod visit begins from a beach, so ask about the actual route from the vehicle to the water. For accommodation, request the room path and any steps between reception, restaurant and pool. Hiring a driver addresses the road distances; ask separately about physical assistance at each stop.

Plan the full days and smaller expenses

The main bill below is for two adults using a driver and ferries. Scooter rentals and resort facilities are separate choices.

When to go

A mainland weather comparison
  • PAGASA’s Dumaguete station is on Negros, not on Siquijor. Its 1991–2020 rainfall normals are lower in February–April than in October or December. Use that as a regional comparison when choosing dates, with no promise of island sunshine or boat conditions. A ferry can be affected by the sea even when your hotel beach looks sheltered. Keep space around the crossing before an important mainland departure and use the operator’s current sailing information.

  • Tubod’s published reef restrictions

Coco Grove’s 2026 calendar restricts reef swimming and snorkelling on 11–13 October, 10–12 November and 10–12 December. The white-sand swimming area remains open from 06:00 to 17:00 during those periods. Choose a shore walk or the permitted beach area when your dates overlap; changing the order of two days cannot reopen a reef closed throughout your stay. Use the posted calendar for later visits, rather than deriving future dates from a lunar formula.

  • Holy Week inland

The provincial tourism office identifies the Pahi-uli healing festival at Mt Bandilaan during Holy Week. If you want to attend, arrange the inland outing around the announced programme. A private introduction to a healer on another date is a different visit. Keep the event’s location in mind when arranging the ride from your coastal accommodation.

What Siquijor costs

Two adults: land and shore, from Dumaguete
  • Allow about ₱4,880 for the selected transport and basic admissions: four ₱420 ferry seats total ₱1,680; two estimated ₱400 port vehicles add ₱800; the private sightseeing day is ₱2,200; two Cambugahay entries add about ₱100; departure fees add ₱100. This suits a shore day when Tubod’s reef is closed, including the 11–14 October ferry examples. On reef-open dates, add about ₱400 for two admissions and snorkel sets, bringing the example to ₱5,280. Rooms, meals, swings, parking, additional reef or cave guides, other local rides and ferry booking or baggage extras are outside these amounts.

  • One driver, different party sizes

A solo guest pays the whole ₱2,200 tuk-tuk day. Two sharing it pay ₱1,100 each; three pay roughly ₱733 each. Add each person’s chosen admissions and meal rather than dividing every expense as though it were one vehicle charge. The service includes the return to the hotel, which distinguishes it from buying individual short rides. Compare that day with renting a scooter for your actual rental period; the choice changes who drives as well as the amount paid.

  • Choosing the next island

At the dated Tourist fares, a couple pays ₱840 for one Siquijor–Dumaguete crossing or ₱1,920 for one Siquijor–Tagbilaran crossing. Those amounts buy different routes. Going to Bohol directly can remove the need to return through Negros when Bohol is next on your itinerary. Add the road ride at each end and any accommodation between separately booked connections. For a Cebu flight search, compare the actual air quote with the whole sea journey; no current flight tariff is included in this bill.

How much hand luggage does a Tourist ferry ticket allow?

OceanJet’s Tourist allowance lists one hand-carried piece of up to ten kilograms, within 25 × 35 × 40 centimetres. A larger suitcase needs its own baggage arrangement. Check the rule for the class you actually buy; the Business dimensions are different.

Can I use Coco Grove’s pool when I visit for lunch?

Its FAQ welcomes visiting diners subject to restaurant availability, but reserves resort facilities for in-house guests. Lunch does not provide pool access. Reserve a stay there if those facilities are part of the trip you want.

Can I bring outside food into Coco Grove?

The resort’s published rule does not permit guests to bring their own food or food from outside vendors into the property. That is a specific accommodation condition to consider before booking a stay with groceries or takeaway meals in mind.

Is a Yamaha Fazzio the same rental price as a Honda Click?

SiquiRide lists the Fazzio at ₱550 per day for one to three days, compared with ₱450 for the Honda Click in that same duration bracket. Request the model as well as the dates so your quote matches the scooter you intend to collect.

Where can a Coco Grove guest refill drinking water?

The resort FAQ offers free refills at its water stations and advises guests against drinking its tap water. Use those stations while staying there; this is the named property’s service, not a promise about every Siquijor room.

What diving wait applies before my onward flight?

For divers without symptoms, DAN recommends at least twelve hours after one no-decompression dive. After repeated no-decompression dives, including on consecutive days, allow eighteen hours. Dives requiring decompression need a substantially longer wait. Measure the gap from surfacing to the flight.
