The pleasure of this route is the change in scale: Seville’s immense cathedral, Córdoba’s forest of columns, Granada’s palace courtyards and then Málaga’s open waterfront. You get one full sightseeing day in each of the two longer bases. Córdoba fits between them without returning to Seville, while Málaga gives the journey a different ending. This is a city holiday with three hotel changes.
Arrival and departure count as days one and seven. A Monday start gives Tuesday in Seville, Wednesday in Córdoba, Thursday into Granada, Friday at the Alhambra and Saturday into Málaga. Shift the monument bookings to their actual visitor calendars when using other dates. An early final flight leaves Málaga with only an arrival afternoon; put the fortress there or extend the trip.
Keep Cádiz, Ronda and the white villages for another journey. Adding them here takes time from the four cities and brings another transfer. If one stop is already familiar, fewer bases and longer stays are a better use of the same week.
A day trip sees the headline building; an overnight also gives you the river and old lanes after the visiting groups have left. The extra hotel change is worthwhile if that evening matters to you. One night leaves little room for a major excursion outside the centre.
Spring and autumn are good starting points for a walking trip, though holidays can affect both rooms and opening hours. Fortress, waterfront and the departure airport
Stay near the cathedral and Calle Alcazabilla for the fortress and waterfront on the last afternoon. The María Zambrano area instead gives priority to the C1 airport connection. Choose according to your flight time: a pre-dawn departure leaves little benefit from a monument-side address.

Use the Seville airport EA bus if its stops suit your hotel, then deal with check-in before setting out. Aena lists a €6 (≈ US$7) single; the short-validity return has no purpose on this one-way itinerary. Keep the first walk modest: the streets around the cathedral, Santa Cruz and a stretch of the Guadalquivir are enough to understand how the centre fits together. Cross towards Triana if you still have energy, or eat close to your room after a late arrival. Do not make a paid entry depend on an inbound flight arriving exactly on time.
Overnight: Seville
Spend the morning in the Alcázar’s palace rooms and gardens. Pedro I’s fourteenth-century palace brings Islamic decorative traditions into a Christian royal setting: courtyards, carved ornament and patterned tiles make the connection visible. Reserve a separate cathedral visit after lunch. Its Gothic interior and the Giralda, a former Almohad minaret crowned with a Renaissance belfry, reveal a different sequence of adaptations. Bring the physical identity document matching your named Alcázar ticket. Online cathedral visitors use Puerta del Lagarto; counter visitors use Puerta del Príncipe. Follow the order on your cathedral ticket, which can begin with the Giralda, and consult the date-specific calendar for worship changes. The October 2026 calendar shortens weekday closing from the 26th. A flamenco performance is an optional evening choice, not another compulsory booking before tomorrow’s train.
Overnight: Seville
After the morning train from Seville, leave your case at the accommodation and visit the Mezquita. Its red-and-white double arches lead through an expanded medieval mosque into a later cathedral. Christian worship was established here in 1236, and the central transept began in 1523: looking for these layers makes sense of the building’s unusual interior. A paid visit today keeps tomorrow’s Granada departure flexible; religious celebrations can change access. Continue towards the Roman Bridge, then return to the Judería for an evening in the old lanes. In a Cordoban tavern, try salmorejo: tomatoes blended with bread, garlic and olive oil, often topped with ham and boiled egg. The garnish matters for vegetarians, while the bread matters for anyone avoiding gluten. Domestic patios remain private homes; an open doorway is not an invitation to enter.
Overnight: Córdoba
After reaching Granada and leaving bags at your accommodation, explore the lower centre before deciding how far to climb into the Albaicín. Its narrow lanes and cármenes—traditional houses with gardens and vegetable plots—give the quarter a different scale from the royal complex across the valley. San Nicolás is the named viewpoint to aim for if the climb suits you; the slopes are part of the outing. The lower streets remain a worthwhile alternative when you have had enough steps. Keep this arrival afternoon free of another compulsory timed interior: the Alhambra has its own day tomorrow. Before dinner, settle your route to its entrance and the approach to the Nasrid Palaces, so the printed appointment does not become a rushed walk across the site.
Overnight: Granada
The Alhambra was the court of Granada’s Nasrid rulers, developing from the thirteenth century and flourishing under Yusuf I and Muhammad V in the fourteenth. It became a Christian royal residence after 1492. Compare the Nasrid palace courtyards with the fortified Alcazaba and the Generalife’s gardens; the changing spaces explain why this deserves a full day rather than a quick palace stop. Alhambra General includes the Nasrid Palaces, Partal, Alcazaba and Generalife. Carry the original passport or identity document matching your named ticket and reach the Nasrid entrance at its printed time; arriving at the outer entrance then may be too late. Last entry is 17:00 in November–March and 19:00 in April–October; Sunday’s free period starts at 14:00, so the worked Sunday morning needs paid admission. Confirm hotel bag storage before sightseeing after checkout, then allow time to collect bags and reach the airport. With an early flight, leave directly or make the fortress visit on Day 6; no seventh hotel night is included.

For two adults sharing a double room, the six rows total €1,990.54 (≈ US$2,230), rounded to about €2,000 (≈ US$2,250), excluding flights. Granada
Yes, if the flight and train results suit that direction. Reverse the four bases and their nights, then rebuild the attraction dates; the Alhambra falls on a different numbered day. Do not reverse the paragraphs mechanically, because the departure city, airport costs and opening calendars change too. The useful comparison is the total cost and convenience of both flight pairs, including an extra hotel night if one departure leaves too early to use its final city.
Check what an alternative actually includes before buying. The gardens-and-Generalife product does not include the Nasrid Palaces; a night product covers a different visit and is not a substitute for all the daytime spaces. The Patronato explains that unused institutional allocations can later return to official sale, so availability may change, but there is no guaranteed release for your dates. If the palaces are the reason for going, change the travel dates or acknowledge that the visit will be different before committing to the hotels.
Plan the Alhambra as a carrier-and-breaks day. Its FAQ excludes strollers inside the Nasrid Palaces, Generalife, Alcazaba, Partal and museum, while allowing them on connecting routes. Free stroller storage and carrier loans at Puerta del Vino depend on availability; the loan carrier is limited to children up to 12 kg. That does not solve every family’s needs. Check the child’s ticket requirements and plan for an adult to pause or shorten the visit rather than assuming the full route will be comfortable.
The railway and several major visitor spaces offer assistance, but the itinerary is not uniformly step-free. Arrange Adif Acerca with the train booking and attend at the time confirmed by the service. Mezquita’s accessible entrance is Deanes Gate. The Alhambra provides a mapped accessible route, and Málaga has a lift from Guillén Sotelo into the Alcazaba; neither promises access to every historic corner. Seville Cathedral offers mobility support, but the Giralda’s 34 ramps and 17 steps are a separate climb that wheelchair users cannot take. Check hotel entrances and the Albaicín hillside individually.
Aena quotes about eight minutes on C1 between the airport and María Zambrano, or twelve minutes to Centro Alameda, but these are train-running estimates. Add the walk, waiting time, terminal approach and your airline’s check-in requirement, and check the first city-to-airport departure. If rail or bus starts too late for your flight, arrange another transfer the evening before. Do not use a timetable for the opposite direction.
These are separate limits. Renfe’s standard hand-luggage policy allows up to three pieces, with combined weight and size limits; Avlo’s included allowance is stricter and includes a small personal item and cabin case. Read the policy for the service purchased. A train-compliant case still does not belong inside the attractions: the Alhambra excludes bags larger than 40 × 40 cm, the Mezquita prohibits large luggage and Seville Cathedral has no cloakroom. A compact day bag plus agreed hotel storage is the practical combination for this week.

The owner lists free entry Monday to Saturday from 08:30 to 09:30, except extraordinary celebrations; access stops and evacuation begins at 09:20. Groups are excluded. The budget uses paid entry on Wednesday so that this narrow window does not control the transfer.
No. The Alcázar’s rules distinguish an ordinary change of plans from a closure attributable to the operator, and occasional closure of individual spaces or gardens does not automatically bring a discount or refund. Alhambra purchases are also firm, with limited specified exceptions. Read those conditions before adding an optional visit that depends on perfect weather or a train arriving without delay. Travel insurance and a hotel’s flexible rate do not make a separate attraction ticket refundable; keep the operator’s confirmation and contact it about the specific situation.
